Welcome to Westport

Westport Town is located on the West Coast of Ireland in County Mayo. It is set on the bank of Clew Bay on the dramatic Atlantic Coast with spectacular coastal views and all with a backdrop of mountains, such as the famous holy mountain – Croagh Patrick.

The town itself was designed by James Wyatt in the late 1700’s and the elegant Georgian architecture can be seen throughout the town. The town is based around the stately home, Westport House and Lord Sligo commissioned the building of the town to house tenants and workers for the great estate. The River Carrow Beg runs through the town and the area around it is know as The Mall.

Croagh Patrick, which is only a short distance from the town, is also known as “The Reek”. There is a church on the summit and it is a place of pilgrimage as well as commanding dramatic views of Westport and Clew Bay.
